Upgrading the Property's Stormwater Drainage
Our team attended a property in North Parramatta NSW 2151 to renew sections of the existing stormwater system and install a new underground absorption trench.
Two new drainage trenches, each approximately 13 metres long, were excavated along the sides of the property. A larger absorption trench was then constructed within the grassed area to provide additional capacity for stormwater storage and dispersion.
Existing plants were carefully removed before excavation so they could be reinstated once the drainage work was complete.
Installing the New Absorption Trench
The new absorption trench measured approximately 10 metres long, 1.6 metres wide and 1.4 metres deep.
Self-supporting arch structures were installed within the excavation to create underground void space where stormwater can temporarily collect before dispersing into the surrounding ground.
The system was surrounded with blue metal aggregate and geotextile fabric. The aggregate provides a free-draining area around the system, while the geotextile helps prevent surrounding soil from migrating into the absorption zone.
Connecting the Existing Stormwater System
New 100mm PVC stormwater pipework was installed to direct water from the property's existing drainage into the new absorption system.
Inspection openings were incorporated to provide future access to the underground drainage, while an overflow relief pit was installed to provide an additional outlet when required.
Connections between the new and existing drainage were also concrete encased for additional support and protection.
Reinstating the Property
Once the stormwater system was installed, the pipework was supported with aggregate and the excavated areas were backfilled and reinstated.
Because the absorption system sits below ground, the grassed and landscaped areas could be restored while retaining the additional stormwater capacity underneath.
For this North Parramatta property, the completed installation provides a dedicated underground system for collecting, temporarily storing and dispersing stormwater within the property.
