Replacing Gas and Water Services Beneath the Driveway
Our team completed a gas and water service upgrade in Carlingford NSW 2118 to replace existing underground services running beneath a section of the property's driveway.
The existing gas line required rectification, while the existing water service was undersized and needed to be upgraded.
Approximately 18 metres of the concrete driveway was opened to access the underground services. The project also included raising the existing water meter and extending the new services beyond the driveway for future plumbing connections.
Excavating the Existing Gas and Water Services
The required section of driveway was marked out before approximately 18 metres of concrete was cut, jackhammered and removed.
The area was then excavated to expose the existing gas and water services and provide the required depth for the replacement pipework.
Once exposed, the affected gas line and undersized water service could be removed and replaced.
Replacing the Existing Gas Line
The existing gas line was removed and replaced with new copper gas pipework.
The replacement service was connected to the existing path valve at the front of the property, maintaining the connection with the existing gas infrastructure while renewing the affected underground section.
The new gas service was installed at the required depth before testing and backfilling.
Upgrading the Water Service to 25mm PEX
The existing undersized water line was replaced with a new 25mm PEX water service.
Where the new water line passed beneath the concrete driveway, the PEX pipe was sleeved inside PVC pipe to provide additional protection around the service.
The property's main water meter was also raised to the required height as part of the water service upgrade.
Preparing the Services for a Future Connection
Both the new gas and water lines were extended beyond the driveway, with provision left for another plumbing contractor to make the future connections.
Completing this section at the same time as the underground upgrade means the new services can be accessed beyond the driveway without needing to reopen the same concrete section for the planned connection.
Pressure Testing and Completing the Carlingford Upgrade
Following installation, the new gas and water services were pressure tested and checked for leaks.
Once testing was complete, the excavated trench was backfilled and the site graded as appropriate. Rubbish from the works was removed and the area cleaned.
The completed project replaced the affected underground gas service, increased the water service to 25mm PEX and established connection points for the next stage of plumbing work.
