Repairing a Defective Sewer Connection
Our team attended a property in East Lindfield NSW 2070 to repair a defective section of sewer pipework at the property's inspection shaft.
The affected connection was located approximately 1.6 metres below ground level, requiring excavation to expose the inspection shaft and surrounding sewer line.
Once accessible, the defective section at the junction with the main sewer connection could be removed and replaced.
Replacing the Damaged Sewer Pipe
The defective section of sewer was cut out and new PVC sewer pipework installed in its place.
Rather than replacing a larger section of otherwise serviceable sewer, the repair was concentrated around the affected connection.
The new connections were concrete encased for additional support and protection, while 8–10mm aggregate was used around the pipework to provide suitable bedding and support below ground.
Bringing the Inspection Opening to Ground Level
As part of the repair, a new inspection opening was installed and extended to ground level.
This provides a readily accessible point for future sewer maintenance or inspection without having to excavate the area again simply to reach the drainage system.
Improving access while the sewer was already exposed was a practical addition to the repair and makes the underground infrastructure easier to service in the future.
Testing and Reinstating the Sewer
Once the new PVC pipework, connections and inspection opening were installed, the sewer was tested and commissioned to confirm it was operating correctly.
The excavation was then backfilled to ground level and the surrounding area reinstated, with excess material and trade waste removed from the property.
For this East Lindfield property, the work addressed the defective section while retaining the surrounding sewer infrastructure that remained suitable for use.
