Tracking Down a Roof Leak Around a Disconnected Flue
Our team attended a property in Pemulwuy to investigate a roof leak and carry out repairs to the affected roofing.
During the inspection, a disconnected flue was identified as contributing to the water ingress.
The existing Deck-Tite around the flue was removed, and the repair involved replacing the affected roof sheet to address the opening and improve the weatherproofing of the roof.
An important part of the installation was ensuring the replacement sheet extended far enough beneath the ridge capping to direct rainwater over the roof surface.
Removing the Existing Flue Seal and Roof Fixings
The first stage involved removing the existing Deck-Tite that had been securing the disconnected flue.
With the affected roof area accessible, the screws securing the existing roof sheet were removed.
The surrounding area was then cleaned and prepared for the replacement roofing material.
This preparation allowed the new sheet to be positioned correctly against the existing roofing and ridge capping.
Installing a Replacement Roof Sheet
A new roof sheet was supplied and installed over the affected roof protrusion.
The replacement was positioned to cover the area associated with the disconnected flue and help prevent rainwater entering through the compromised section.
Particular attention was given to the overlap beneath the ridge capping.
The ridge capping covers the upper junction of the roof sheets, so the replacement sheet needed to extend sufficiently underneath it to maintain the intended direction of water runoff.
Checking the Roof for Further Water Entry Points
After installing the replacement sheet, the completed repair and surrounding roofing were visually checked for potential water entry points.
The inspection focused on the repaired area and its junction with the existing roof materials.
No controlled water test was documented in the supplied job notes, so the completion check was based on the recorded visual inspection.
The roof area was then cleaned, with removed materials and installation debris taken off site.
Completing the Pemulwuy Roof Leak Repair
The completed work addressed the roof penetration associated with the disconnected flue by removing the old Deck-Tite and installing a replacement roof sheet.
Rather than replacing a larger section of roofing, the repair focused on the area identified during the initial inspection.
The new sheet was positioned beneath the ridge capping to help restore the roof's weather-shedding arrangement, with the surrounding area checked for other potential openings.
