315L Smart Electric Hot Water System Replacement in Epping

Replacing the Existing Roof-Mounted Hot Water System

Our team completed a hot water system replacement in Epping NSW 2121, replacing the property's existing roof-mounted system with a new 315-litre Smart electric storage hot water system.

The existing hot water service was isolated and drained before work began. The new system was installed in a different location and connected back into the property's existing hot-water pipework within the ceiling and roof space.

The project also involved removing the redundant roof-mounted tank and solar panels and establishing a new dedicated electrical supply for the replacement system.

Preparing the New Hot Water System Location

A new 600mm x 600mm concrete base was installed to provide a stable location for the replacement hot water system.

The new 315L Smart electric storage unit was then positioned on the prepared base.

Approximately 5–6 metres of new 20mm cold-water pipework was run from the property's existing water supply to the new system location. The installation also included the required isolation, non-return and pressure-limiting valvework.

Connecting the New System to the Existing Hot Water Pipework

New hot-water pipework was installed from the replacement system into the existing ceiling and roof space.

This pipework was connected to the property's existing hot-water distribution, allowing the new storage system to supply the existing fixtures throughout the home without replacing the wider internal hot-water network.

The new pipework and valvework were installed to the applicable requirements for the system.

Removing the Roof-Mounted Tank and Solar Panels

Once the new installation was established, the old roof-mounted hot water equipment and associated redundant pipework were disconnected.

The existing storage tank, solar panels and redundant components were removed from the property.

Any redundant penetrations through the roof tiles left by the previous installation were then made good and weatherproofed as part of completing the removal.

Installing a Dedicated Electrical Supply

The replacement electric hot water system required a new dedicated electrical circuit from the property's meter board.

The new electrical supply was run underneath the house to the hot water system location before the unit was connected.

The existing off-peak circuit associated with the previous hot water system was disconnected and made safe.

Testing and Commissioning the New Hot Water System

Once the plumbing and electrical work was complete, the new 315L system was tested for correct operation, temperature, pressure and water leaks.

The system was then commissioned, with redundant materials and packaging removed and the work area cleaned.

The completed project replaced the previous roof-mounted arrangement with a new ground-mounted electric storage system while retaining the home's existing hot-water distribution.
