Replacing the Sewer Drainage Across the Property
Our team attended a property in Earlwood NSW 2206 to complete a substantial renewal of the existing sewer drainage.
The works extended from the sewer lines exiting the property, through the courtyard and grassed area, and into the driveway before connecting with the existing sewer main.
This included approximately 11 metres of excavation through the courtyard, 21 metres through the grassed area and a further 56 metres through the driveway, making correct levels and consistent drainage fall an important part of the installation.
Excavating the Existing Sewer Route
Existing pavers were carefully removed and stored before excavation began through the courtyard. The existing sewer drainage was exposed and removed, with the trench then prepared for the replacement pipework.
Excavation continued through the grassed area and into the driveway. Concrete sections were cut and removed where required to access the underground sewer route.
Existing stormwater pipes positioned above the sewer within the driveway trench were also removed as part of the works.
Setting the Levels for the New Sewer
Required levels were established from the house connections through to the final sewer connection.
Because the driveway section extended for approximately 56 metres, laser level checks were carried out throughout the trench to confirm the required depths and maintain the sewer gradient along the new drainage route.
Maintaining this fall was particularly important because the sewer operates using gravity to carry wastewater through the property.
Installing the New PVC Sewer Drainage
New PVC sewer pipework was installed throughout the excavated sections and connected to the property's existing branch lines.
The renewed drainage also incorporated vent lines, gully traps and inspection openings, with the inspection openings brought up to ground level for future access.
Connections between the new PVC drainage and existing pipework were concrete encased for additional protection and stability.
The new sewer pipes were supported with 8–10mm aggregate bedding before the trenches were backfilled and compacted.
Reinstating the Courtyard and Driveway
Once the sewer installation was completed, the areas disturbed during excavation were reinstated.
The original courtyard pavers were relaid, with the paving cut around the new inspection openings so the sewer access points remained accessible.
The affected driveway and footpath sections were formed and re-concreted following backfilling and compaction, with the new concrete finished to match the surrounding surfaces as closely as practical.
Excavation spoil and other waste from the project were also removed from site.
Completing the Earlwood Sewer Renewal
The completed project provided a new sewer drainage route across several different areas of the property, including a substantial section beneath the driveway.
Along with replacing the underground pipework, the project established the required sewer gradients, incorporated accessible inspection points and reinstated the courtyard and driveway following excavation.
The result was a comprehensive renewal of the property's sewer infrastructure rather than a repair to one isolated section of pipe.
