My Rinnai Hot Water System has no hot water?
Depending on the type of hot water system you have at your premises, this quick troubleshooting guide will attempt to help you out
I have a Gas Water Heater
- Check power supply with another appliance
- Check your gas supply, your stovetop will be handy for this, light it and see if the flame basically stays alive
- Test Water flow - open up the tap or test another tap. Could be a mains issue
- Check and clean Filters on the hot water system
- Check Error codes on the controller display and reference them with your user manual
I have an Electric / Solar Hot water System
- Circuit breaker may tripped in your powerbox, check and make sure it hasn’t tripped.
- There may be a power outage in your area
- Solar powered heating can sometimes be 100% efficient due to poor weather - sometimes these systems have a booster switch to compensate for this.
- Thermostat has malfunctioned
- Tank is leaking water, check the surrounds of your hot water tank.

What are the Rinnai Hot Water Error Codes?
Rinnai Continuous Flow water heaters has a self diagnostic capability If a fault occurs, an Error Code will flash on the digital monitor of your water controllers or on the status monitor * on the front cover of the water heater.
This assists with diagnosing the fault, and may enable you to overcome a problem without a service call.

03 | Power interruption during Bath fill (Water will not flow on power reinstatement) | Turn off all hot water taps Press On/Off twice |
10 | Air intake or flue blocked | Service Call |
11 | No ignition / No gas supply | Check gas is turned on at water heater and gas meter or cylinder |
12 | Flame Failure / Low gas flow | Check gas is turned on at water heater and gas meter or cylinder. Check there are no obstructions to the flue outlet |

Why is my Rinnai Water so Hot?
Cold water might not be much fun, but when your hot water is too hot, this can be dangerous especially on older systems which do not have a temperature regulator built in. In this case, make sure you check your systems thermostat which may be set to high. Each adjustment may take some trial and error to get perfect and if it doesn’t, don't hesitate to call a plumber.
